Thanksgiving 2004

As we all speed off to our various holiday destinations, I thought it might be nice to ask classmates to reflect for a moment and add their Thanksgiving thoughts to this discussion.

I'm certainly thankful for family and good health, and for the continued opportunity to connect with Yale friends old and new.

What are you thankful for?

Thanksgiving 2004

Ed,

Happy Turkey Day

We took a ferry to Ellis Island yesterday. I had not been in NYC since the late 1980's and always feel somewhat disoriented while visiting there. We walked from Battery Park all the way back to Grand Central through the drizzle stopping by the WTC site along the way.

I was moved by the images of tolerance and clemency at Ellis Island and the stark contrast with the hatred and devastation nearby. As my father immigrated to the US in the early 1950's I am thankful for the acceptance and the kindness of others that welcomed him then. We will reflect on these thoughts over the holiday.

As I listened to the local NPR station in Boston this morning, I heard a story that the early Thanksgivings were a break fast after a day of fasting. The purpose of the fast day was to take stock of one's life. I am thankful to spend the holiday among close family and friends. I hope everyone had a wonderful day. Back to the gym in the morning!
