Break out of the pack and post your photo!

By Peter duPont

Hey, what is it with all of you John Travoltas out there? Why is there so much conformity? Some of you may have be lazy; some may be shy; some may have a mental block; and some might just not feel "techie" enough to post your own photo (or even a gag photo) in your space on the class web site. Actually, it's easy. Take it from me, a bio major who never word processed a paper until long after I left the hallowed halls of Ivy. Try this, and see if it works:

1. Click on My Profile in left menu
2. Click on the Edit Photos tab
3. Click on the Browse button. Then you just use it like file explorer until you select the photo from your own hard drive that you want to upload.
4. Select upload. Note that it is also possible to upload more than one photo on your page.

What does someone do who does not own a digital camera with a photo to download onto the website?

You need to have a digital or digitized image. You can have a conventional print scanned or ask a friend to email you a photo. It doesn't to have to be a portrait of yourself. A good image with family is worth 1000 words, too!

One way to get a digital image if you have traditional film is to use digital photoprocessing. If you usually develop film through a drugstore, you can sign up for a Kodak Photo CD to be made from your film. Or you can have an online photo service such as snapfish.com or ofoto.com develop your film -- they'll convert it into digital images for you, and also make prints for you.
